PEB Power Supply redesign |

Hello,
I obtained an old PBE box with the interface card, the 32K Mem Expansion, Disk I/O controller and an RS232 interface card inside. The cards are in good condition, but the power supply board has 2 bad inductors on it and looking over the design, I was thinking of redesigning the Supply board and adding regulators for each of the voltages. Has anyone thought of or done this previously?
Thanks to all in advance!

Introduction and questions |

Hi folks:
Please forgive if I am posting this in the wrong place.
I am new to 99er.net, but, wanted to introduce myself and get a little information.
My name is Joseph Norton, from Dalton, GA.
I am a blind computer user.
I bought the TI from a friend of mine, since it had a speech synthesizer, and, was interested in what it could do.
This was back in 1984. I had a lot of fun, eventually invested in the expansion box, disk systems and bought a separate hardware synthesizer.
As the years went by, I had a lot of fun, writing little programs for myself in both TI Basic and Extended Basic, routing most all of my Print statements through "rs232.ba=9600) to go to my Echo speech synthesizer. I did have a Terminal Emulator II, but, if I wanted speech output in anything other than TI basic, I had to get a hardware synthesizer.
Anyway, years have gone by, My TI quit working one day, but, I had mostly moved on.
Now, I see there are still some folks still using their TI 99's.
Recently, I have been playing around with virtual machines, and, it occurred to me to look for a TI Emulator, as I had once had one working under MAME, I think.
On this very site, I found 2 that I find very interesting.
First, I ran across the Classic 99 emulator.
I found it interesting, because I could run it, go into the TI 99/4A emulation, but, I could print things out to a file, which would be saved on my PC's HD, then, I could view my results with my Windows screen-reader.
However, I noticed that neither of the things I tried could run the text-to-speech functions utilized by the Terminal Emulator II.
I happened to see the Win994A emulator. It had a lot more of cartridges and disks in a couple zip packages I could use, and, amazingly, text-to-speech works! The sound doesn't seem as true-to-life, and, the speech is still not quite as good as the real thing, but, I get to play with it again!
I am even looking to try a few educational titles on my 4-year-old and 10-year-old to see what happens.
Anyway, can any of you out there give me some pointers. For example, does either of these emulators look similar to the original TI 99/4A? One thing I found interesting, is that, in Classic99, I can change the system to an old TI 99/4--not that I would want to, but, it was fun to look at it, since I'd never experienced it before.
Anyway, I would be interested in hearing about the pros and cons of these and other emulators, as well as any programs I might find useful as a speech user.
This is bringing back a lot of memories. After all, the TI 99/4A was my first computer I did anything with.
Thanks for any suggestions..

TI99 Equipment Database |

I have started to create a database of TI-99 equipment for reference purposes. It is very much in the 'beta stage', but it can be found at http://ti99db.99er.net . It is a mysql database, and I purchased software to set it up and create the HTML pages. So, the look and feel of it is based on the default template. The icons, buttons, etc, will all probably change.
This all started when I started when I decided to organize my TI collection past what I already had on notepaper. I photographed and cataloged everything and created a database for my own use. I exported all of that to a CSV file, and imported it to the database here on 99er.net just to get started. There were problems getting the photos to import, so I will have to add them individually. I've also noticed that while the photos I took in my basement are ok for my use, they look kind of lousy, so I want to take better ones of my stuff. I had also deleted fields that worked for my use (quantity, location in storage, condition), and need to add others that would make more sense if this is to become a comprehensive reference for everyone to use (for instance- I noticed that my 'notes' field in the cartridge table should probably be changed to 'description').
So, I am looking for suggestions on how to organize this, other fields to add, etc. Right now, I've created sections (tables) for Cartridges and Hardware, and I plan to add at least a 'Software' section for cassette and disk software. I am also looking for people who are interested in being assistant database editors and would want to add new entries, add/edit descriptions, upload photos, etc.
I want this to be a fully searchable reference with the ability to export the results to CSV. If it's possible (and I think it is), I would also like to eventually add the ability for users to create their own account and add items from the database to their profile so as to create a personal inventory. Also, if there seems to be interest, I would like to eventually move the whole thing over to its own domain name.
If you have suggestions and/or would like to help out with editing, PM or email me.
Thanks,
Rich

A long time ago, someone expressed interest in the Romox cartridges, which I have 3 of. (I think he/she wanted to make it a project) I've finally found two of them and have pictures, but haven't found who I'd messaged with.

I have several new cartridges available for the 99/4A (these require 32K memory expansion to work). I have a Games multicart with over 120 TI games on it, each selectable from the TI menu screen (it is 8 pages long, you advance from page to page using the space bar to find the selection you want). These are $35 each, shipped to a US address.
I also have 512K cartridge boards available for $16 each, shipped to a US address. There are seven different EPROM images available for these (programmed EPROMs can be obtained through the Hummingbird EPROM service, listed on the Arcadeshopper website under TI), five Games compilations, one utilities, and one educational. The games in the first four of the 512K games images are also in the 2048K Games compilation. Note that these boards are supplied as an assembled board without an EPROM or cartridge case to allow users to build their own cartridges.
Lastly, I have 128K cartridge boards (assembled and without the EPROM, as noted above), in the style of the 64K boards done by Jon Guidry a few years ago. These boards are usable with a plethora of cartridge images available through Hummingbird EPROMs. These boards are also $16 each, shipped to a US address.

Free: TI99/4a and expansion box |

I get donations for my computer collection all the time and so I ended up with a TI99/4a and an expansion box. The expansion box contains the floppy controller, a RS232 card and a 32k Memory expansion. They both seem in really good condition but I lack video cables and power cables so I haven not been able to test them out for functionality. Since I received them for free I'd love to give them to another collector who will appreciate them.
If you are in the Pittsburgh area let's arrange a pick up and they are all yours.
I could be convinced to ship them at requesters cost if no one local wants them locally.
